Santa Caterina Valfurva
|
Valfurva is a green valley, rich of forests and waters, located in the eastern part of Valtellina, near Bormio.
The main town is undoubtedly Santa Caterina, encircled by the high peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, like a huge amphitheater of mountains, all beyond 3,500 meters above sea level, where there is the biggest glacier of Italian Alps, whose name is Ghiacciaio dei Forni.
Santa Caterina Valfurva is a paradise for those who love the mountain: in winter you can practise alpine and cross-country ski, in summer hiking and mountain bike, always dipped in the wonderful landscape of the Stelvio National Park, where the nature is uncontaminated, and peacefulness and tranquillity give relaxation to visitors.
In the winter season Santa Caterina offers to its tourists more than 40 km of ski tracks where you can practice all the sport related to snow: alpine ski, cross-country ski, snowboard, ski touring and telemark, and walks on the paths with the "ciaspole" , the typical snowshoes.
Those same paths can be travelled also in summer, by foot, mountain bike or horse, when they are dipped in thick woods and green meadows; Santa Caterina is located in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, a magnificent park situated in the center of the Alps, one of the biggest and most interesting protected areas of Europe.
