St Mark's Clocktower
|
The Clocktower is a building dated back to 15th century, whose main attraction is, precisely, the clock. The beautiful clock face is golden and blue and marks the time, day, phases of the Moon and zodiac.
Above the clock there are the famous Mori di Venezia, two bronze statues representing two shepherds who strike the hours with a hammer.
Another peculiarity is that, during the day of the Epiphany, every hour, the lateral panel opens to let come out a group of statues representing the Nativity scene with the Magi. The statues re-enter then in the Tower through another panel on the opposite side of the Clock.
