The fascinating village of Poggibonsi, situated at the spurs of the Hills of Chianti, is one of the classical dream places: rich in culture, art, traditions, it can move every visitor, with its monuments and the beauty of its landscapes.
The town has ancient origins, but it is in the 10th century that the development of Borgo di Marte, later Marturi, then Borgo Vecchio, today Poggibonsi, began. The Communal Palace is the most important civil building of the city; it was built between 1818 and 1871, year in which it became seat of the Local Government. In the center of the town there is the church of San Lorenzo, reconstructed at the beginning of the 14th century, while in the outskirtses the beautiful Sanctuary of santa Maria al Romituzzo, that keeps in its inside a lot of tokens of faith, as the thousands of ex-voto made of papier-mâché and a hundred of votive tablets.
