Valmalenco is a valley that begins near Sondrio and goes ahead in the mountains in the northern part of Valtellina. It includes five towns: Torre di Santa Maria, Spriana, Lanzada, Caspoggio and Chiesa in Valmalenco, the main town.
Chiesa is a well-known touristic center for thewinter sports: the ski area Valmalenco-Alpe Palù offers 18 tracks for every kind of skier, from the simplest to the most difficult track "Gustavo Thoeni" , and there are reserved areas for snowboarding.
The nearby towns of Lanzada and Chiareggio offer the opportunity of evocative excursions along the tracks of cross-country ski, dipped in the silent forests.

But this area is beautiful also in summer: panoramic paths, to cover by foot or mountain bike, allow to appreciate the dazzling landscape; an interesting walk is the Alta Via della Valmalenco, a tour that lasts eight days, 110 km long, that starts in Torre di Santa Maria and goes along the mountain group of Monte Disgrazia, the Massif of Bernina and the zone of the Pizzo Scalino.
