Parco Sempione
|
Parco Sempione is a wide green area of Milan, surrounded by important historical buildings, like the Castello Sforzesco and its museums, the civic Arena and the Arch of Peace.
Its name dates back to 1906, year in which was inaugurated the Simplon Tunnel: it is in that direction that the avenue that begins in Corso Sempione leads, and sempione is the italian name of Simplon. The Sempione park was planned according to the romantic model of the english parks, with trees and shrubs disposed in a picturesque way, irregular flower-beds and pathways, small lakes and channels and the creation of a bridge. The park has a fence and in its inside there is a rich arboreal and shrubby collection, numerous playgrounds for children and pic-nic areas.
Since its creation, the park has always been a point of reference for spending the free time, and it has also an area for cultural and artistic exhibitions.
