Stazzema
|
The town of Stazzema, one of the four of the historical Versilia, is subdivided in 18 hamlets, each one with its history and its traditions. From the town starts a net of paths that allow to reach all the localities and the magnificent summits of the Alps Apuane that encircle it.
The entire territory of the town, indeed, is comprised in the perimeter of the Park of the Alpi Apuane, where you will be able to find a natural environment among the most beautiful of Italy.
In Stazzema, the smallest town of Versilia, there are many churches to visit, among which the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Piastraio, the Church of San Sisto, the Church of San Peter, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of Santi Clemente and Colombano.
The hamlet of Sant'Anna is a small village situated in a valley, that had become sadly famous because of the Eccidio di Sant'Anna di Stazzema, the slaughter of 560 persons, that tried to shelter there in order to escape from the Germans, committed by the nazi troops on 12th August 1944. Today, a monument on the main square of the city reminds us this tragic event.
