Limone sul Garda

The name of Limone remembers to all the tourists that arrive in this picturesque locality the lemon fruits that really grow here: the city guide says that this is the more northern locality where these fruits grow.
The truth is the name probably derives from an ancient term 'limo', 'lemos', that means elm tree, or from the Latin 'limes', that is frontier, between the Brescia area and the jurisdiction of the bishop of Trento.
Until the 40's the town was isolated and reachable only through the lake or through the mountains. The construction of the Gardesana Road (completed in 1932) broke this isolation and brought a tourist development of the area.
