The city of Lecco is located in the southern point of the Lario, in a small plain valley surrounded by rocky mountains.
In the city you can visit several monuments, among which the beautiful Basilica of San Nicolò, main church of the city, dedicated to the patron of the sailors; very evocative are the small public squares of the historical center, like Piazza Manzoni and Piazza XX Settembre, where there are elegant bourgeois palaces with balconies and decorated windows.
We remember also the house of the otalian poet and writer Alessandro Manzoni: the fact that the poet has spent here his youth and that was inspired by this landscape for his masterpieces "I Promessi Sposi", has always been a valid reason for the interest of this writers'l overs
Lecco and its sorroundings are also today referred to as Manzoni's places, and it is possible to visit most of the places that are in the novel: the house of Lucia, the parish church of Don Abbondio, that is the church of San Vitale e Valeria, in the village of Olate, the residence of Don Rodrigo, the castle of the Innominato, in order to conclude with the convent of Fra Cristoforo in Pescarenico.
Beacuse of the happy position of Lecco, it is not difficult to find pleasant and easy reachable places, where to go for short trips. Those who love the nature can go up to the Monte Barro, whose summit offers a good panorama on the gulf of Lecco and the Brianza. Another beautiful destination is the panoramic Monte Resegone or, for people interested on the history of this area, the town of Garlate, where you can visit the Museum of the Silk.
